Personality: Inquisitive, arrogant, greedy. Kevin is driven by self-interests. This appears to be an over correction for his early years, as he shuns anything group oriented and focuses on his personal goals. He is quick witted and humorous, but often at the expense of others. He enjoys the company of animals over people.

Description: Ruddy-cast pale skin, Brown hair, blue eyes. Kevin is a hardened individual. Though still young for his race, his skin is leathery and wrinkled from a harsh life in the desert. He has limp brown hair that shuns any efforts to style it and beady blue eyes. He dresses in practical clothes, often things hunted and crafted with his own hands.

Biography:

Born in the back of a wagon as part of a travelling caravan of desert traders, Kevin’s concept of home is more of a feeling and less of a place. He grew up learning the skills required to survive in the desert, and that survival is dependent on those around you. There is no place for conflict in the nomadic life. Which led to a great deal of pent up resentment and anger issues that Kevin never learned to properly deal with.

While still a boy, Kevin’s parents ventured off to scout the trail ahead for the caravan and never returned. This was not an uncommon occurrence, so the rest of the caravan took it upon themselves to raise the boy when a few days of searching revealed no trace of his parents. More resentment built.

As a youth, Kevin fell in love with a young girl at one of the small towns the caravan often traded with. She rebuffed his advances rather cruelly, mocking him in front of his friends. In a fit of rage, Kevin lashed out and wounded the girl.

There was no room in the nomadic community for assault, and no escaping the consequences.

Kevin was cast out from the only home he’d ever known. Life alone in the desert is a death sentence. Shamed and even more furious than before, Kevin vowed to survive out of sheer spite. This vow partially succeeded, aided by the fortuitous arrival of a group of avia riders. The riders took the dehydrated and half-starved youth with them back to their aerie, where they nursed him back to health.

Kevin spent the next several years working off his gratitude to the avia riders by becoming a practitioner of odd jobs around the aerie. He used his skills at sewing, darning, woodworking, and cooking to assist the aerie workers in whatever they needed. He also began to develop a kinship with the intimidating avia; featherless fliers with long, pointed beaks and wings that stretched from arm to stubby leg. Though he could never really bond with any of them, something about adding fire to fire being a bad idea, he became enamoured with the idea of flying.

When the avia riders made a trip to the Warren, Kevin asked to tag along. He’d long heard stories of the fabled dragon riders and wanted to see the place for himself. They obliged, and a few days later Kevin found himself in a magical land of greenery and water as far as the eye could see.

When it came time to leave, Kevin opted to stay behind. He thanked the avia riders for their hospitality over the years, then signed himself up to do the same sort of odd jobs around the Warren that he’d done at the aerie.

Over the course of the next few years, Kevin’s hunger for the skies grew. He bonded a draca hatchling named Keshpt and delighted in watching his new friend grow and take to the air. Kevin badgered the search riders until they agreed to add him to the candidate list and has been eagerly awaiting the day he’d be called to stand at a clutch ever since.
