Marisol

Age: 16

Gender: female

Origin: Sudlandese

Background:

Marisol was born on a ship. Her earliest memories are of her mother carrying around the great galleon she commanded while the crew cooed over her or slipped her treats. As she grew, she wanted nothing more than to follow in her mother's footsteps and become captain of her own pirate ship. She never saw any wrong in their assaults on merchant vessels.

It was a posse of royal Sudlandese naval frigates that took out her mother's ship one fateful day. Marisol became homeless and an orphan in a single blow. With no knowledge of her father to speak of, she was sent off to her mother's sister, who lived far inland and had divorced herself from that part of the family.

Marisol did not get on well with her aunt. A combination of grief and trauma from being uprooted from the only life she knew rendered her an unholy terror to deal with. It wasn't long before her aunt dropped her on the orphanage's doorstep and washed her hands of Marisol too.

Marisol has been at the orphanage for a handful of months.

Belia

Age: 15

Gender: female

Origin: Traxan

Background:

Belia was born the only daughter of a fairly well to do family in the Traxan capital of Lesteppe. She had a privileged upbringing for many years, but her parents always reinforced social responsibility in her. She should never look down on those with less than her. She should always strive to help those in need. And she should never take for granted what life gave her.

The last tenant of her childhood rules to live by was tested in the extreme when a plague stole her parents away from her.

Abruptly, Belia became not only an orphan, but homeless and destitute. Her father had spent most of their family's fortune in trying to save her mother, and what was left went into covering their debts and funeral costs.

There was no extended family to call upon, and so Belia ended up shipped off to an orphanage. Not just any orphanage either, but one based in an entirely different princelet. Belia never quite understood why she was sent to Matron Marigold, but she accepted her lot and tried to make the best of it.

Prem

Age: 13

Gender: male

Origin: Lanuthan

Background:

Prem did not have a good start to life. Born on the streets of Tetoui, a small, coastal village, Prem never knew a stable home. He moved with his mother from shelter to shelter and began taking odd jobs as early as five years old.

The most stability Prem ever knew in his early life came in the form of an old monk who sometimes worked with the homeless residents of Tetoui. The monk spoke of a mystical place called the Hidden Valley up in the mountains, high above the furthest reaches of Lanutha. He spoke of peace and serenity and a life lived in connection with nature. Working with the monk, listening to his stories, was one of the few times Prem felt at peace.

The monk died when Prem was still young. He was the one to find him.

Not long after, his mother died as well.

As he grew older, Prem fell in with some rough crowds. He joined a street gang and earned himself a tattoo. Soon, he began to dress and style himself in the way of the old monk. He was told it made him look "badass" so the transition to "angry street monk" became permanent.

Eventually, the authorities caught up with Prem and his gang. Those that didn't die in the conflict were carted off to jail. Only Prem escaped imprisonment thanks to his age. He was sent to an orphanage instead.

Mayken and Aell

Age: 13

Gender: male

Origin: Lanuthan

Age: 10

Gender: female

Origin: Lanuthan

Background:

Mayken and Aell are no strangers to dragons. They grew up in Terglinear, which is Lanuthan's largest city and home to the Audils. As such, they regularly spotted the High Prince with his blue Blakoreth sailing overhead.

Born the children of dock workers, they knew a hard life, but not one lacking in love. They always had food on the table and clothes on their backs, though the quality might not have been the best, and they always went to bed knowing that their parents cherished them.

An unfortunate accident stole their parents away when Aell was still barely old enough to understand what was going on. They were shipped off to a relative, who cooed over them and gave them condolences, and then attempted to separate them and send Mayken off to a boarding school.

Within days of arrival, Mayken escaped the school, ran back to his sister, and absconded with her in the night.

A short while later, they were found and returned. They escaped again upon being threatened with a different boarding school.

This time when they were returned, no attempt was made to send them off to school. They were simply relinquished to an orphanage.

Aell was adopted almost immediately, but within days, Mayken once again showed up to break her out. Time and again, this routine repeated, with Mayken growing more bitter and distrustful of adults with each incident.

Finally, they were sent off to an orphanage on the edges of the princelet, where hopefully their reputation as escape artists might not follow them.
