Name: Elel Tathviel su Almarri
Age: 20 years
Gender: male
Race: half-elf (Almarri)
Height: 5'3"
Personality: Serious, frugal, religious. Elel is a no-nonsense type of person. He always goes straight to the point, cares little for social niceties, and gets frustrated when people lie about what they want or how they feel. He sees worldly possessions as little more than a means of weighing you down and detests people who wear their riches openly. He believes in destiny and the will of the gods, and while he is more than willing to control the direction of his own life, it is exceedingly difficult for life-altering events to upset him. He always believes there was a purpose behind them. This does make him appear rather unsympathetic to those around him. Elel is autistic.
Description: Silver hair, brown eyes, golden skin. Elel was born with the black hair customary to his elven kin, but by the time he was a teenager, his hair had already started to turn silver. Now, at 20, his hair is thin, brittle, and completely silver. He keeps it shaved save for a strip down the center of his head, which has been left to grow down as far as his tail bone. Elel is rather short and frail-looking for his age. He likely will still grow a little bit, but not enough to change the fact that he is a short king. His skin is rough, pockmarked, and golden.
Biography:
Elel was the result of a night of poor decision making on the part of his mother. She had thought her one night fling with a human would be memorable in the moment, then forgotten the next day. It wasn't until a few weeks later that she realized she was pregnant, and by then the hometown of Elel's father was far behind her.
Elel grew up as a nomad with the rest of the Almarri people. Like them, he blamed human-kind for his lack of a stable home. He tried his best to be as elven as the rest of his tribe, but this was not an easy task as his appearance became increasingly human in character. The lightening of his hair from black to silver was just another reason for him to feel ostracized among his own people.
To combat his status as "more human than elf", Elel cut his hair in the traditional mohawk and starved himself to maintain a thinner frame. He hated every growth spurt, especially as it put more and more of a gap between himself and his friends. At 16 years old, they were still playing hide and seek among the trees, while he was expected to begin helping with the hunts.
Elel hated hunting. He hated the taking of a life and the butchery afterward, and hauling the kill back to the tribe. It was all too strenuous and too dirty for him. It wasn't long before he sought other employment amongst the tribe, and found himself auditioning to be one of the kathakar. This typically female-dominated occupation was considered one of the most sacred and most important roles held amongst the Almarri. Not just anyone could be a kathakar.
For all the disdain and suspicion Elel's people held for him, they could not deny his talent. He fought hard for his place among the kathakar, even pushing himself beyond his distaste for physical exertion. He had a natural gift at dance and a way of telling stories that enraptured his audience. Though some among the tribe disagreed with his appointment, he was eventually accepted into the ranks of the kathakar.
Elel served as a kathakar for 4 years, travelling with his people and telling their stories. He was good at this job and took it very seriously, but he did not love it. He didn't love the way people smiled and told him they admired him while simultaneously talking behind his back. He didn't love the way the children pretended not to be afraid of him when it was his turn to teach them their history. He didn't love the way he still felt like an outsider, even now with such a prestigious title to his name.
So when his tribe passed through Lanuthan lands on their yearly trek, he announced that he was leaving. He'd heard of another Almarri already living at the Warren, and he imagined that if one of them could do it, he could do it too. At the very least, it would get him away from all the whispers and comments behind his back.
Elel's tribe did not put up much of a fight when he left, only swearing him to silence about their histories. Those stories were sacred after all.
Elel hadn't intended to become a dragon rider when he left his tribe. All he wanted was a home where people left him alone and didn't lie to his face. When one of the search riders came calling at his temporary accommodations, he figured he would give this "bonding" thing a try. Maybe he'd like it better than dancing.
