Nuku was born on the Isle of Kael'ara, a small, lush island located in the heart of the treacherous Serpent’s Archipelago, known for its perilous waters and the sea monsters that dwell within them. The island has been home to a resilient community of sailors and explorers for generations, who have learned to navigate the dangers of their surroundings with skill and courage. The island itself is a verdant paradise with towering cliffs, lush greenery, and sparkling blue lagoons, but its beauty is shadowed by the lurking threats of the ocean.

Growing up, Nuku was surrounded by stories of adventure and bravery. Her parents, skilled sailors themselves, often spoke of the deep-sea leviathans that roamed the waters and the hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. These tales ignited a fierce curiosity in Nuku, inspiring her to explore the waters that surrounded her home, both to understand the dangers and to protect her community from them.

In typical fashion, Nuku was recruited to a pirate ship in order to feed her desire to explore beyond the shallows of her homeland. For several years, she helped terrorize the mainland coast and raid merchant vessels.

This came to an end when a golden dragon descended on their pirate ship mid-raid and threatened to boil them all alive unless they honoured some sort of trade lane agreement the dragon's rider was trying to set up with the local pirate guild. Nuku's captain agreed (because not getting boiled alive is a good thing) and they prepared to depart.

Before they did, Nuku couldn't suppress an urge to go up and meet the dragon in person. This seemed to amuse her rider, and she introduced herself as Sabrilla Alyssa Coranaet of Sewyn Warren. The dragon's name was Kanishkath. The two of them offered to take Nuku back to their warren if she was interested in meeting more dragons.

Nuku agreed and gave up her life of piracy on the spot.
